Rabindranath Tagore was an Indian poet, playwright, painter and music composer. He was born in Calcutta, West Bengal. Most of his literary works were translated into English.
Tagore became the first Asian writer to receive Nobel Prize for Literature for his Gitanjali in 1913. It is this work which brought him not only awards but also world-wide fame as a writer. Known as ‘Bard of Bengal‘, he wrote the Indian National Anthem and became one of the most read Indian writers.
